May 6, 2026 — Ms. Judy Lalnunsiami, the 2026–2027 recipient of the prestigious Rev. Thangngur Music Award, paid a visit to the headquarters of the Independent Church of India (ICI) on Wednesday, where she participated in a joint devotional gathering with staff members.
The devotion brought together staff from the ICI Secretariat, the Rural Women Upliftment Society, and the Tuiṭhaphai Presbytery. During the service, Lalnunsiami rendered a special musical presentation, featuring the well-known hymn “Vân Thangsuo,” originally composed by Rev. Thangngur himself.
Lalnunsiami was conferred the Rev. Thangngur Music Award at the 42nd General Conference of the ICI Youth Department, held from February 26 to March 1, 2026, at Sakawrdai under Hmarphei Presbytery in Mizoram. With this recognition, she becomes the eighth recipient of the award, following previous awardees from various presbyteries including Assam Hills, Cachar, Tuiṭhaphai, and Hmarphei.
The Rev. Thangngur Music Award is named in honour of Rev. Thangngur (1891–1943), one of the most influential early leaders of the ICI. Widely regarded as a foundational figure in Hmar Christian hymnody, he composed at least 80 gospel songs, many of which reflect themes of Christ’s suffering and the glory of His return. His enduring legacy continues to shape the worship life of the church across generations.

During her visit, she is scheduled to participate in a three-day Gospel Camp organized by the Saidan Youth Department, followed by a week-long stay to produce a music video.
Her visit and ministry engagements highlight the continuing impact of the Rev. Thangngur Award in nurturing young Christian musicians and promoting gospel-centered worship within the ICI community.
