Rev. Lalsanghuol Vankal Assumes Charge as NPT Coordinator
March 27, 2026
In a significant leadership transition, Rev. Lalsanghuol Vankal has officially taken charge as the Coordinator of the Nehemiah Prayer Team (NPT) in a small ceremony at the ICI Secretariat, Sielmat, succeeding Elder Lalmanlien on March 27, 2026.
The handover marks the end of a remarkable era of leadership by Elder Lalmanlien, who has guided the NPT since its inception in 1986. His retirement from active service follows his attainment of the age of 60. He was given full pension at the 76th General Assembly of the Independent Church of India held at Khawlian, Mizoram on December 2025.
The Nehemiah Prayer Team, a ministry under the Independent Church of India, was established in 1986 after a successful Gospel Camp held at Sielmat. Initially formed by 117 campers, the team has since grown to include members from various states across Northeast India.
Over the years, the NPT has expanded its activities significantly. It now operates more than ten “Prayer Mountains” across Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, and Meghalaya. These sites, equipped with prayer cabins, provide spaces for individuals from all walks of life to engage in meditation and prayer.
In addition, the NPT continues to host its annual Prayer Conventions, drawing participants from across the country for times of collective prayer and spiritual renewal.
The appointment of Rev. Vankal is expected to usher in a new phase of leadership while continuing the legacy established over nearly four decades.
